Closed Mould Composite Manufacturing

Closed Mould Composite Manufacturing

Advanced closed mould RTM techniques producing lightweight, high-strength parts with superior consistency and detail.

Precision Composites for Demanding Applications

Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) is a precision-driven process ideal for producing high-strength, high-finish composite parts at scale. With over 50 years of experience, we've delivered thousands of RTM components worldwide, trusted across industries from automotive to renewable energy. RTM is a closed-mould process that produces exceptionally strong, lightweight, and dimensionally accurate composite parts. It's the go-to method for high-performance applications where surface finish, repeatability, and structural integrity are critical.

Trusted Across Industries
RTM is widely used in:

  • Automotive: Body panels, structural supports, EV enclosures
  • Aerospace: Interior panels, fairings, ducts
  • Renewables: Wind turbine blades, solar panel housings
  • Rail & Infrastructure: Cladding, seating, access panels

Why Choose RTM?

  • Superior Surface Finish: A-class finish on both sides - ideal for visible or aerodynamic parts. Parts can be gelcoated on both sides.
  • Dimensional Accuracy: Closed moulds ensure consistent thickness and tight tolerances.
  • High Fibre Volume: Up to 65% fibre content for maximum strength-to-weight ratio.
  • Cleaner Process: Minimal emissions and waste compared to open-mould methods.

Over 50 Years of Composite Excellence

We've been at the forefront of composite manufacturing for over five decades. In that time, we've produced and delivered thousands of RTM components to clients across the UK and around the world. Our parts are trusted in critical applications across transport, energy, defence, and beyond - a testament to our craftsmanship, consistency, and commitment to quality.

The Process Behind RTM

1.

Dry Fibre Lay-Up

Dry reinforcement materials (e.g. glass, carbon, or aramid fibres) are carefully placed into a matched metal or composite mould. This allows for precise fibre orientation and selective reinforcement.

2.

Closed Mould Injection

The mould is sealed, and a low-viscosity resin (such as epoxy, polyester, or vinyl ester) is injected under controlled pressure. The resin fully saturates the fibre pack, ensuring complete wet-out.

3.

Controlled Curing

The part is cured inside the mould, maintaining tight dimensional tolerances and producing a smooth, high-gloss finish on both sides.

4.

Demoulding & Finishing

Once cured, the part is removed, trimmed, and finished to exact specifications - ready for use or assembly.
